Our Staff

We currently have three counsellors, an Office Administrator and an Administrative Assistant on staff. Each counsellor has registered status with a professional association, indicating that they have solid educational qualifications and a high level of competency. All counsellors have specialized training and broad experience counselling individuals and families.

 

Kelsi Baine, MSc, CCC - Executive Director/Counsellor

Kelsi Baine

Kelsi has been working with the agency since 2007, and has been counselling in various capacities since 2000. She holds a Master of Science degree specializing in Counselling Psychology from the University of Calgary, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Brandon University. Kelsi is a certified counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.

Kelsi specializes in couples issues, communication skills, relationship violence and abuse, anxiety and depression, stress management, grief, and wellness. Out of her graduate research she has a keen interest and expertise in working with couples who are transitioning into parenthood, or are having relationship problems since becoming parents. Over the years Kelsi has counselled adults, couples, families, youth, and groups (both therapeutic and psycho-educational). She incorporates mind and body wellness into her practice, helping people to achieve holistic positive changes in their lives.

Kelsi works 4 days a week in the Campbell River office.

 

Graham Walker, MA RCC - Counsellor        

Graham

Graham holds a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology, and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Victoria. Graham is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, and has been counselling in various capacities since 2006.

Graham’s areas of clinical specialty include anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, and stress management. He works with adults and youths, and has experience working in individual, couple, and group counselling settings. He uses a humanistic, client-centred approach in his work, and also employs cognitive behavioural and solution-focused therapeutic techniques.

Through his graduate research, Graham has developed a special interest in mindfulness-based practices for the promotion of higher levels of personal potential.

Graham works in our Campbell River office.

 

Jennifer Mansell, MSW RSW - Counsellor        

Jennifer

Jennifer has been a Registered Social Worker since 2003. She completed her Masters work with Dr. Karl Tomm at the U of C Family Therapy Centre. 

 Jennifer has had the pleasure of working with children, adults, couples and families in a variety of settings over the years. She worked as an Addictions Counsellor for years, prior to starting a private counseling practice in 2007.

 She has experience working with a number of specialized client groups including those with addictions, mental health concerns, developmental disabilities, and concurrent disorders. As well, Jennifer has a strong skill set working with couples and families.

 Jennifer draws on a number of modalities including Hakomi, systemic family therapy, solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy and other postmodern approaches.  As a yoga teacher, Jennifer is interested in the bridging of western psychotherapy and eastern philosophies of healing, utilizing practices such as Hakomi, Mindfulness-based CBT and Yoga Therapy.

 Jennifer is passionate about women’s issues and has a keen interest in prenatal and postnatal mental health.   When she’s not at work, Jennifer can be found enjoying the west coast lifestyle, chasing her 2 young children, riding a bike or doing downward dog.

Jennifer works 2 days a week in the Comox office.

 

Helen Peters, MC, RCC - Counsellor

Helen offers counselling to employees and families of our member companies with worksites located in the Lower Mainland. She is a Marriage and Family Therapist, working in the field since 2002. Her areas of interest in counselling are family relationships, stress management, depression/anxiety and addictions.

 

Natalie Maga, B.Sc - Office Administrator

Natalie  holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a Psychology major.  As the Office Administrator, Natalie plays a significant role in the running of the office as well as often being the first contact when you call or visit.  If you have any questions about UICS, would like to make an appointment or would like more information on how the service and counselling works, she will be happy to speak with you.
